Hey Survivor,
Hey, look at us! Surviving our Last Shift and making it to Night 2 of our 13 Nights Of Terror! I’m proud of us. I hope your October has been going well. I’ve been having fun, going to Sprite Halloween, and watching a ton of movies and shows. I’m on a Deadwood kick right now. I know it’s not horror, but I have a weakness for Westerns. I started watching it when I was deployed, where I first read the book I selected for Night 2! Check it out.

Teen fans of a Rock n’ Roll God go on a hunt for a lost song that even the Devil doesn’t want to be found. A woman builds a trap for a deadly serial killer with the help of a Doctor, who is skilled in the art of madness… these are just some of the tales of terror that are waiting for you deep in the blood-soaked pages of “Stitches”
Sylvester Barzey has scoured the darkest reaches of his mind and ripped his favorite twisted tales from five anthologies to create this one collection of genre-blended horror. Stitches is one collection that won't only get under your skin it will bury itself in your flesh!
The Amityville Horror (Fun Fact: This is the cover of the edition I read in Afghanistan)
When I was deployed in Afghanistan, I had a lot of extra money and no little voice that said, “Save this for the future,” so I blew it on building my horror movie collection and my horror book collection. Lucky for me, I didn’t need to buy some of the books because we had a little library at our location (Not like the cute ones you see in your town; this was a bookcase with a lot of old books and books no one wanted to read) One day when I was going through the books I came across a book I knew about due to watching movies and just being into the supernatural. Still, it was one I’ve never read… it was the book of the dead, no I’m kidding I wouldn’t read that, it was The Amityville Horror!
The Amityville Horror is a book about the Lutz family who just moved into this nice house at 108 Ocean Ave. in Amityville, New York. Little did they know (Actually, I think the dad knew, and you know, in horror movies, the dad/husband has to gaslight the family. “It was the wind”… the wind doesn’t make the walls bleed, Dad!) that years before in 1974, the house used to belong to The Defoe family, who were shot in their sleep by the oldest child Robert Defoe Jr. All six family members (Mom, Dad, and four kids) were killed in one night before Robert went to the bar got drunk and then got arrested. This event is believed to be what causes the evil in the house, but there’s also a belief that Robert was being controlled by an evil force that night; in fact, some believe the whole family was being controlled due to no one waking up during the shooting. Anyway, the Lutz family moved into the house and left after 28 days; the book explains what they dealt with during that time.
So I wasn’t the biggest Amityville Horror fan; I thought it was a good movie, even the remake with Ryan Reynolds, but It wasn’t one of my top ten must-watch movies, but the book! This book is part of a handful of books that actually creeped me out while I was reading it. Maybe that’s because I read most of it in the dark with a flash light but I was shook. My favorite aspect of the book is everything left out of the movie, especially what happens to the priest after he leaves the house, because it lets you know that evil can get you even after you leave. This was a really fun and crazy ride. I know it’s pretty much believed the Lutz family made it all up, but if even 5% of this story happened to me, I might just rent apartments for the rest of my life.
The Amityville Horror is streaming on Max & Hulu. The Remake is streaming on Hulu
Well, that’s it for me, Survivor. We have 11 more nights to go, and I hope you’re ready for the terror that’s going to come. As always, stay safe, stay woke, and stay alive!
