Hey Survivor,
I hope all is well, and you’re surviving this horror movie called Life. Speaking of Horror movies, my wife and I are doing the “100 Horror Movies In 92 Days” challenge, and we are so behind, but we’ve seen a lot of good movies so far. So, I thought I would show you three of them and talk about one horror book that I loved this year since we’re more than halfway through 2024. Let me know what horror gold you’ve found this year.

This movie was a random surprise. The concept is what pulled us in. This woman has to defend her friends from a group of psychos who attack their girl's night. It feels like there are a lot of movies coming out that are "Girls Trip" meets horror, and I'm loving it. The thing about this one is that the main character is a retired military badass, and she's surrounded by people who don't trust or understand her, and it annoyed me. But The deaths and the action kept me from being annoyed the whole time. The ending is a bit off because I don't understand the reasoning behind it, and that's the only reason it's not a five-star, but this movie was a great time.

I want to start by saying that I watch this duo's TikTok videos, which are always funny. But to see that they made this epic horror movie with $800 and a great story speaks to what you can do with what you have and the passion in you. This movie starts with a group showing you how their prank for Milk's birthday will play out, but under that innocent joke, something dark is growing. Milk is not who they think he is and isn't one to be messed with. Like, I'd be creeped out just meeting the guy cause he played that role so damn well. It's free on YouTube, giving everyone access to it. The horror community loves it, and so do we.

This movie was really a nice surprise. We went in not expecting anything and loved it. It feels like we're on a Maika Monroe marathon because she's been in this, The Stranger, and we have The Guest on our to-watch list as well. This was a nice little ride where you weren't sure Monroe's character was crazy or in danger. She seems to play that well. What put this over the top for us was that ending! I love a good I told you so moment.
Angel said this would be a 5-star movie if she told off her husband, haha, and I have to agree cause that man was trash. You come upon a crime scene of a serial killer and leave your wife alone every night in a new country where she doesn't speak the language? That's trash, and he needed to get his. But it is still a fantastic movie, even if her husband didn't get knocked out or murdered.

I’ve put reading Kindred off for a long time, mostly because the concept didn’t really sound like something I wanted to experience. Time traveling back to slavery is a nightmare in itself but to have to bend over backwards to keep a racist a live just made me think I wasn’t going to have the best time with this one, but I was hella wrong. This book was so amazing, I had to watch the show just to see what they did with the story. Everything that I was worried about were necessary to tell this complex story. I would tell anyone to read this book, regardless what genre they enjoy. I should have never doubted Butler’s work, she took this concept and made something epic with it and I’m so happy I finally got to enjoy it.
Well that’s it for me Survivor, I’m going to get back to writing and try to bring you something amazing soon. As always, stay safe, stay woke, and stay alive!
Until the Next Nightmare,
