Hey Survivor,
Welcome back to The Den, my monthly newsletter, where we talk horror, representation, and, of course, a whole lot of zombies. We’re three months into this apocalypse, and I hope you’re holding up.
I just had knee surgery on the 28th, and if nothing else, it confirmed my belief that slow zombies are the way to go in a real-world apocalypse. I can’t afford this knee giving out. I need to be able to make a quick getaway at a solid speed walking pace.
Since I’ve been stuck in bed and drowning in meds, I haven’t done much… except start a short story for my Inner Den Survivors about Mama Briggs’ first day in the apocalypse and plot out Planet Dead 4. I think I’ll be dropping it chapter by chapter there, but that’s all still in the works. If you want to become part of the Inner Den, sign up here:
I also had a blast running the Fear In Full-Color series on Instagram, where I spotlighted Black horror and thriller authors throughout February. But let me tell you, posting every day is not easy. Still, I managed to fit in a few podcast appearances, and that’s what I’ve got for you today. Check them out and hear me talk about Planet Dead, Dead Soil, Black Horror, and more.
The Zombie Bookclub Podcast
I say this all the time—if you’re a zombie reader, you need to be listening to The Zombie Bookclub Podcast. Hosts Dan and Leah are amazing, and they’re always spotlighting new zombie authors, which means my TBR pile is officially out of control.
Hey Book Pals with The Spine of Motherhood
I sat down with author Kirsten Noelle Craig to talk about Black horror, why it’s essential to the horror genre, and some of our favorite horror reads by Black authors. This chat lined up perfectly with the end of my Fear In Full-Color series on Instagram, where I celebrated a different Black horror/thriller author every day in February.
Black Speculative Fiction Panel
I also got to be part of a fantastic speculative fiction panel hosted by authors Tonja K. Johnson and E.A. Noble. We had some real discussions about the challenges Black authors face in the industry and shared some incredible short stories. They even put together a free eBook of the shorts from the event—grab your copy now and dive in!
February was packed, and then I capped it off with knee surgery on the 28th, just for a little razzle-dazzle. So, things are moving a little slow this month, but I’m still planning to get out two newsletters and one exclusive short story for Inner Den members.
This month’s Inner Den short story: "What Kind of Man Are You?"
A brutal, extreme horror tale about a red-pill podcaster who gets kidnapped and hunted down for his views.

That’s it for now! Hope you’re surviving out there, and as always…
