Hey Survivor,
I hope you’re doing well in this crazy apocalypse called life. Things are going good with me, I’m mostly working on a lot of short stories that I have for some anthologies this year. I plan on sharing some before they release, hopefully I hit my deadlines, if not you’ll still have some new stories to check out.
Okay, we’re continuing on with our Faces of Horror Interviews and this time around we have the brand new splatter punk author Phrique as we take a look at their debut book “Gig Of The Damned: Slay The Competition”
Enjoy the interview.
Welcome to The Den, a post-apocalyptic hideout for all my survivors. Thank you for taking the time to do this little Q&A. Let the survivors know who you are and what you’re about.
Hey Survivors! I’m Phrique. I am a painfully observant Pisces who experiences the world at a more heightened state than most. So I decided to share my misery and my craft by creating stories that deliver all the devilish details. Be that emotional trauma, absurd existentialist hilarity, or finely-misted arterial spray when your clavicle compound-fractures and ruptures your jugular. I’m going to do my very best to bring that scene to your mind’s eye in dazzling 3D and make it stick. Don’t worry though, I’ll follow it up with a knock-knock joke or a random disembodied voice to bring the mood back up. We like to have fun around here.
Can you give us a sneak peek into your latest book in just a few sentences? Leave the survivors hanging!
“What did her dirty, was holding her chainsaw the correct way, as she had been instructed, instead of holding it by her side while she walked. So when the three ton Louisville slugger came down on top of her, it was the force of the tonnage slamming into her that forced her torso to tear in two over the jagged steel teeth held horizontal. Had the fallen tree been a few feet to her right, it would have done her the service of crunching her bones into the soft earth and mashing her skull into a crunching, leaking powdered jelly donut after the first bite. However, it fell two feet to her left, pinning her down to the ground in a millisecond. Bisected, with numerous barbed limbs and branches impaling her in multitude of painful pressure points. The worst being the six inch wide limb that entered just below her ribcage. The force of the fall ricocheted the sharp, broken edge up and out of her armpit, deflating her fluid-filling lung but keeping her alive just long enough to feel her insides slopping out of her and soaking into the dark void that would be her final resting place.”
What was the lightning bolt moment that inspired you to write this book?
It seems like titles come to me and then I fill in the blanks. So for “Scissor Me Timbers,” I was like…how the hell could that even work? What is it about a lumberjack? A lesbian lumberjack? That’s not horror, that’s not scary. How would that even work? Hmm, what’s the last place you’d think she could *land*? In a convent. Oh yeah, that’s good! Then what? Idk…she could sleep with them all & the jealousy would drive them all insane & end in a bloodbath? 🤔
What gives you the chills, but everyone else thinks is no big deal?
I work in a steel mill, which has pretty high worker fatality rate. Usually one a month, so accidents and things like that hit very close to home for me. That’s why the Final Destination movies always put a little extra fear into my heart. Besides that, losing your autonomy to a parasite or a demonic possession, etc. always gives me the heebie jeebies.
Can you share four spine-tingling reads from your all-time favorite horror authors?
And how about four must-reads from some fresh, new voices in horror that our readers need to know about?
Lastly, where can the survivors find you?

Phrique is an awesome author that I met as I’ve been exploring the extreme horror community. If that genre is something you’re into and interested in I 100% believe you should check out Gig Of The Damned and be sure to follow Phrique on social media for updates and other crazy random stories.
But that’s all I got for you today. As always, stay safe, stay woke, and stay alive!
