Tiffany D. Jackson is a Young Adult Author who has slowly crept her way into the horror landscape with titles like Monday’s Not Coming, White Smoke, and The Weight of Blood. Jackson’s storytelling is amazing and she pulls you into her characters. I enjoy the different aspects she brings to her horror.
Like in White Smoke, while it deals with real-world issues such as mass incarceration and gentrification, the horror aspects of the story are pulled from urban legends, creepy pastas, and true crime. When we look at The Weight of Blood, Jackson’s Carrie reimagining, there’s an aspect of True Crime podcast culture added to it.
Jackson has a way of taking old-school horror and spinning it for the next generation, making it feel new and fun and I enjoy that. She’s an instant buy author for me and on my top ten list of favorite authors. You should check out her work and my favorite I’ve read of hers so far has to be “The Weight of Blood” because I’m a true crime junkie and when you listen to the audiobook, the true crime sections feel like you’re listening to a podcast. It’s fun and while you know how it’s gonna end, the ride is still 100% worth it.
